Originally from the Lake District, Joe Capps is a self-taught artist based in the UK. His first exhibition, Atlas, opened at Wildman Studios, Kendal, in 2019. Aside from painting, Joe recently completed a Master’s degree in Screenwriting at Screen Academy Scotland (grad. 2021).
Through portraiture, landscape painting, and figurative surrealism, Joe’s work is concerned with the relativity of the human experience – the subjectivity bound within a glance or space, the fallibility of the physical body, the resonant contexts that impress meaning onto object and landscape. It is through these avenues that his work seeks to explore aspects of mental health and the wider relationship between the mind and body. Joe also offers a range of commissions.
